Birthday Weekend in D.C.
A little recap of my birthday weekend spent celebrating with Stephie! We had a blast in our jampacked tourist weekend in D.C!
We started off our trip bright and early, and arrived right around lunch time. We tried some craft kombucha from Union Market that was so good, and then went exploring around Georgetown! We strolled into the cutest boutiques, and the adorable residential streets that were just swoon-worthy.
Once we felt ready, we headed over to the National Mall since it was right by our AirBnB. We ended up walking the entire thing and visited our friends Washington, Joe, and Abe ;) The best part though was sitting and soaking up the sun at the WWII memorial.
Once we felt ready we went and checked into our apartment so we could get ready for the evening. We had dinner at my favorite restaurant ever - MariVanna - which I hadn’t been to in over a year due to COVID. The food was just as good as their NYC location and I was just so, so happy.
We finished off the night with a ghost tour which was hilarious because it happened under cover of a historic church during an insane thunder and lightning storm!
Day two was museum central.
We started off the day strong with a delish breakfast at Ted’s Bulletin and then headed over to the O Museum for the first part of the day. It’s a restored 4-townhome-mansion that has over 100 secret doors you have to try and find. The doors can be as tiny as a post-it note size or as big as a regular door. Ultimately after a few hours we were satisfied to have found 20, when 3 was the average!
After that we checked out the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery - the two are connected - but we were disappointed that the presidential and first lady portraits were closed off to the public.
To finish off our night we drove over to Alexandria for dinner at Don Taco and 2 escape rooms! We had an absolute blast - this was probably my favorite part of the whole trip. The escape rooms were tough, but we did well for only having 2 people, and Alexandria is definitely one of my new favorite cities ever. I can’t wait to go back!
We kicked off our morning bright and early at Tatte and this was the first time we ever experienced the magic of the Avocado Croissant Breakfast Sandwich. I mean, it’s arguably the best breakfast sandwich of all time.
We then headed over to the Spy Museum which was so much more fun than either of us were expecting. You get assigned a secret mission in the beginning of your journey and have to keep it up throughout the entire museum! Once we finished up there, we hopped on electric scooters in an *adventurous* spirit and went throughout the National Mall again!
We grabbed lunch at a little sandwich shop and made our way to the National Museum of American History for the afternoon. Once we explored enough there we went back to Georgetown for an escape room and an amazing dinner at Brasserie Liberte - where we walked in drenched from a torrential downpour but enjoyed amazing meals.
